Trails are a customization option added on July 5, 2017, as part of the second anniversary Champions Field update.[1] Trails record the time of boost used while equipped.
Unlike rocket boosts, a trail is only activated in-game when the player's battle-car reaches supersonic speeds.
Common[]
The Classic trail is available to all players automatically. All the other following trails are exclusive to their related DLC battle-cars.
Very Rare[]
The following trails can be obtained from blueprints. Some are available through Tournament Rewards.
Import[]
The following trails can be obtained from blueprints and Item Shop.
Premium[]
The following trails are exclusive to their related Premium Content Packs.
- The Blue Rocks trail was obtainable by downloading the PlayStation®Plus Pack during Season 1 from the PlayStation Store.
- The Lightning Plus trail can be obtained by downloading the PlayStation®Plus Pack during Season 2 from the PlayStation Store.
Limited[]
Competitive Season 4 (Legacy)[]
Players who participated in the Competitive playlists during Season 4 (Legacy) received limited trails as a reward when the season ended. Trails were awarded to a player based on the highest rank they reached. These trails cannot be traded with other players. As of September 30, 2017, this trails are temporarily disabled due to stability issues on some platforms.[2]

The following trail was available as part of the 2018 Frosty Fest special event. The trail could be purchased for 100 "Snowflakes".

The following trail was available as part of the 2019 Frosty Fest special event. This item was a free login reward.
Haunted Hallows[]
The following trail can be purchased with "Candy Corn" during the Haunted Hallows special event.
Lucky Lanterns[]
The following trail was available as part of the 2020 Lucky Lanterns special event. The trail could be purchased for 75 "Red Envelopes".
Spring Fever[]
The following trail can be purchased with "Flowers" during the Spring Fever special event.
Beach Blast[]
The following trail can be purchased with "Shells" during the Beach Blast special event.
RLCS Fan Rewards Phase 2[]
Players who registered for Fan Rewards and watched the RLCS and RLRS enabled for item drops on Twitch starting from March 10, 2018 could receive this limited item as a random drop during the live broadcast.

Only painted variations which can be obtained from 'Pro Tiers' (i.e. Tier 71 and above) can be traded.
